Obituary

Joseph Thomas Martin, 91, of South Pittsburg, TN, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2020.

He was a social, active man who was born and raised in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. As a young man, he left his home and family to serve as a sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War until he was dutifully discharged after earning the combat infantry badge as well as the Korean service medal with 5 bronze stars.

Upon returning home, Joe soon turned to a lifelong career as a truck driver for a majority of his life. While continuing to drive trucks all around the country, he found the love of his life, Glennda Faye, who managed to corral him back to his home in the mountains. After settling back home to his roots, Joe lived out his last life goal of owning and operating his own restaurant, The Patton House. His family and friends will always remember him as a joyful and humorous person who could always put a smile on your face.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Jessie Martin; his siblings, Tommy Martin, Wilberta Rollins, Evelyn Lawson, Jewel Fulfur, and Irene Martin; daughters, Janice Hughes and Sharon Martin.

He was survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Glennda Faye Martin; children, Tony Martin, Timothy (Gayla) Moon, Karen (Gordon) Griffitts, Georgia (Rick) Rodgers; his siblings, Chester Martin, Charlie Martin, Jimmy Martin, Earlene Ziegler, Nellie Kilgore; and his abundance of grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
