Mr. Joseph A. Stewart, 80, of Jasper, TN died Thursday, May 22, 2008 in Dunlap, TN.
The son of the late Hugh and Winnie Deakins Stewart, he was a US Navy veteran and a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Jasper. He was a Shriner and a member of the Ridgedale Masonic Lodge. An avid hunter, he loved his yearly hunting trips to Colorado. He retired after many years of work with Dupont and TVA. He was a good Christian who, after retirement, spent much of his time helping others. He did metal and woodworking creating works that many others could not. He enjoyed volunteering in his community and for his church and enjoyed travelling with Ruth, his wife of 36 years.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Adeline Rodriguez and uncle, Joe B. Stewart.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Garner Stewart and step-son, Jere David Turner both of Jasper; daughter, Deborah Flake of San Diego, CA; son, Clark Stewart and family of Florida; grandson, Aaron Flake and his daughters, Alysia and Amber all of San Diego, CA; sister, Evelyn Kyle of Georgia; brother, Charles Leon Stewart of Dunlap, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Sunday, May 25 at 2 PM CDT with Reverends John Paulsen and James Patterson. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Dunlap.
The family will gather with friends for visitation on Saturday from 5-9 PM CDT at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Grace Presbyterian Church in Jasper.
