Mrs. Katherine Denison Carter, 89, of South Pittsburg, TN died Friday, August 3, 2007 in a local hospital.The daughter of the late Judge Washington Hill and Katherine Gaston Denison, she was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Carter and brother, WH Denison, Jr. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and was a longtime, very active member of Holly Avenue United Methodist Church where she was a long-time, beloved teacher of the Beene-Williamson Sunday School Class. She was also a very active member of the United Methodist Women, having served for many years as treasurer as well as holding other offices. One of her greatest services to her church and the community was her organization of a Food Bank that provided food to families in need across Marion County for many years. She was a retired school teacher, having taught English and Business classes for 20 years at South Pittsburg High School as well as teaching Adult Education classes. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Marion County Retired Teachers Association and was TVA secretary.She is survived by two sons, Tom (Judy) Carter of Chattanooga, Jim Carter of Houston, TX; daughter, Betty Kay (Vernon) Pearson of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Chad (Candace) Boeninger of Athens, Ohio and Zac Carter of Franklin, TN; great-grandchildren, Clay and Cole Boeninger both of Athens, Ohio.Funeral services will be held at 10 AM CST on Monday, August 6, 2007 at Holly Avenue United Methodist Church in South Pittsburg. Interment will be in Cumberland View Cemetery in Kimball.The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5-8 PM CST at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.Memorial contributions may be made to the Holly Avenue United Methodist Church.
