Kenneth Lee Mitchell, "Ken Dog," as everyone called him, was born on July 11, 1943.
He died on April 2, 2008.He attended McReynolds High School, where he met and married his first wife, Shirley Ann Pickett. He was a member of the Army National Guard, and worked for the city of South Pittsburg. He later moved to Dayton, Ohio, where he met and married his current wife, Rovena Winston. After getting homesick, and missing his family, he returned to South Pittsburg in 1998. He later joined The House of God. Ken Dog was known by many and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie Lee and Harry Mitchell, brothers, Samuel and Charles Mitchell; sisters, Helen Mitchell and Annie Crosby.
He is survived by his wife, Rovena Mitchell; his children, Terry Mitchell of South Pittsburg, William (Rolanda) Mitchell of Jasper, Tn., Sharon (James) Kelley of Whitwell, Tn.; Karen Hutchins of Chattanooga, Michelle Johnson of Las Vegas, Ne.; Kendra Mitchell, Kenneth "Butterhead" Robinson, Emmett Robinson, Sebastian "Blu" Mitchell, Sabrina Mitchell, Monica (Clyde) Langston all of South Pittsburg; Stacy (Vickie) Miller of Cowan, Tn.; stepchildren, Albert "Ajay" Jones of Dayton, Oh., Michelle Jones of Jasper, Michela (Russell) Saunders of Knoxville, Tn.; Rashawn Witherspoon of South Pittsburg; brother, Benny (Celia) Mitchell of Las Vegas; sister, Barbara Jean Mitchell of Jasper; sisters-in-law, Inez Coles, Michelle Williams, Johnelle Dewberry, Tammy Witherspoon all of Dayton, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Bert Winston, Tommy Coles, Lamont Harding, John Dewberry, Nat Turner; 33 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a host of cousins and friends; special niece, Charlsie Bynum.
Funeral services will be conducted at the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 2 p.m. CDT on Sunday with Elder Brenda Moss and Reverend Richard Smith officiating.
Interment will be in Anderson Cemetery in Jasper.The family will gather with friends for visitation on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. CDT at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
