Larry Wayne Poppen
August 25, 1967 – October 15, 2025
Monteagle, Tennessee
Larry Wayne Poppen, age 58, of Monteagle, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born with a generous heart and a tireless spirit, Larry was known for his unwavering dedication to those he loved. A lifelong fan of the San Francisco 49ers, he never missed a game and proudly wore his team colors. But his true passion was found in the kitchen, where he delighted in cooking meals for his family, often turning ordinary evenings into cherished memories.
Larry also found joy in the quiet moments—casting a line into the water on a fishing trip, sharing stories around the dinner table, or simply spending time with those closest to him. His work ethic was unmatched, and his kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his warmth, humor, and generosity.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Poppen; brother, Jesse Poppen; sister, Shari Poppen; William "Buck" Buchanan; cousin, Gary Wingfield.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Helen Davis Poppen; son, Mark (Heather Gail) Poppen; grandchildren, Madison Poppen, Leland Poppen and Lainey Poppen; father, Harold Poppen; nephew, Cody Poppen; aunt, Nancy Buchanan; nieces, Jessica and Alexis Poppen and many friends
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. (CDT) in the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home.
Mr. Poppen will be laid to rest at the Orme Cemetery, on Orme Mountain.
