William Lewis "Rabbit" Coppinger, 73, of Jasper, TN died Sunday, May 25, 2008 in a Chattanooga Hospital.
The son of the late Gilbert Hiram and Pearl Irene Lewis Coppinger, he was a member and Elder of the Jasper Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a Past President of the Jasper Lions Club. A longtime supporter of MCHS sports and UT football, he was the Plant Manager at Sequatchie Handle Works for over 37 years. He was preceded in death by his son, William Lewis Coppinger II; sisters, Alice Joyce Coppinger and Nancy Holtcamp; brother, Gilbert H. "Red" Coppinger, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Connie Bates Coppinger of Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Ella and Gregg Shipley of Chattanooga and Suzy and Keith Lehman of Jasper; grandson, Jordan Lewis Lehman of Jasper; sister, Mary Ruth (Ralph) Burton of Jasper; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 28 at 10 AM CDT with Reverends James Patterson, Bill Lassiter and Dr. Glenn Brister officiating. There will be a private burial following the service.
The family will gather with friends for visitation on Tuesday from 5-9 PM CDT at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper.
