Mrs. Margaret Raulston Braden, 91, of South Pittsburg, TN died Friday, June 24, 2011, surrounded by her family.
The daughter of the late Mancel C. and Hewlett Kelly Raulston, she was a graduate of Richard Hardy Memorial School and South Pittsburg High School. She received her Bachelor's degree at Middle Tennessee Teachers College (now MTSU) and returned to South Pittsburg to pursue her career as a teacher.
For 38 years she taught children of Marion County, nine of which were spent at Richard Hardy Memorial School teaching third grade. She taught music and directed the Glee Club for 29 years at South Pittsburg Elementary School. She was a member of the Marion County Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma, a member of the South Pittsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and a long-time visitor at First Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga. She and her husband owned and operated the Dixie-Freeze for 44 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Paul Braden, and brother, Joseph Mancel "Chick" Raulston.
She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Ann (Benny) Rollins and Paula Sue Braden; granddaughter, Lauren Worley (Tanner) Knauth; step-granddaughters, Christine Rollins and Kimberly R. Hughes; brother, Jack (Ginna) Raulston; sister-in-law, Allie Jane Raulston; four nieces, Lynn Adcock, Marsha Raulston, Jody Loyd and Dava Quarles; and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at 11:00AM Central time, officiated by Reverend David Tullock and Reverend Kriss McGowan. Interment will be in Cumberland View Cemetery in Kimball, TN.
The family will receive friends at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg on Monday, June 27, 2011, from 4:00 to 8:00PM Central Time.
