Obituary

Marion Kenneth "Ken" Wynne, 79, of Kimball, TN died peacefully at his home on Monday, March 9, 2015.

A 1953 graduate of South Pittsburg High School, he continued his education at Tennessee Technological University, graduating in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He began his 50 year career in the transportation industry in 1960 working as Director of Design for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. He retired from TDOT in 1990 after 30 years of dedicated service. Following his retirement from TDOT, he began a 19 year Engineering Consultant career working with Watt & Estes, then Volkert Inc., retiring again in 2009. Ken made a lifetime of contributions to transportation facilities throughout the State of Tennessee.


Ret. Col. Marion K. Wynne dedicated 35 years of service to his country serving the Tennessee Army National Guard. He retired from service having held the following command positions: Battery Commander of "A Battery" 1/115th Field Artillery Battalion in South Pittsburg, TN, Battalion Commander of the 1/115th Field Artillery Battalion in Winchester, TN, and Brigade Commander of the 196th Field Artillery Brigade in Chattanooga, TN.


He was an avid University of Tennessee Volunteers fan and was a longtime, faithful member and deacon at First Baptist Church in South Pittsburg, TN. He was preceded in death by his father, George Berry Wynne.


He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 57 years, Shirley Choate Wynne of Kimball, TN; his mother, Lucile Joiner Wynne of South Pittsburg, TN; half-brother, G.T. (Betty Jean) Wynne of Chattanooga, TN; two children, Steven (Donna) Wynne of Hayes, VA and Karen Wynne of Boston, MA; two grandchildren, Kenneth Lee Wynne of Virginia Beach, VA and Bradley Robert Wynne of Hayes, VA; and his favorite dog, Lucky.


Funeral service will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 10:00 am Central time with Rev. Brad Bridgman officiating. Interment will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, TN.


The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday evening from 5-8pm Central time at the funeral home.


The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 6221 Shallowford Rd #102, Chattanooga, TN 37421-1972.
