Obituary

Mary Jacqueline Rowland "Jackie" Johnson, 85, of South Pittsburg, TN died Saturday, August 8, 2015 in a Chattanooga hospital.


Born in Laurel Hill, Tennessee, to the late David James and Ruth Maxwell Byrne Rowland, Jackie was a born artist. She attended Tennessee Technological University for two years, studying Commercial Art under Professor Fannie Kuykendoll. She met her future husband, Stewart Johnson, while attending college. After their marriage, they settled in South Pittsburg, Tennessee where Stewart worked for Sequatchie Valley Electric Cooperative and Jackie kept their home and children.


Jackie continued to pursue her passion and talent for art after leaving college. She loved painting, needlepoint and crafts and for many years was active in the various craft fairs in and around Marion and Grundy Counties. She was also a member of Goosepond Cumberland Presbyterian Church and had served as a Sunday school teacher for many years.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart Fredrick Johnson and sister, Betty Jo Rowland Leese.


Jackie is survived by her children, David Johnson of South Pittsburg, TN, Carol Guess of Deckerd, TN and Ron Johnson of Hayesville, NC; grandchildren, Heather Walker of Antioch, TN and Kim Young of Chattanooga, TN; great-grandsons, Miles and Adrian Hill; and her sister's children, David and Karen.


Graveside funeral services will be held at Cumberland View Cemetery in Kimball, TN on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 1:00 pm Central time with Rev. Joe Moore officiating.
