John Matthew Layne, 40, of South Pittsburg, TN died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 11, 2013 in a Chattanooga hospital.
A graduate of Marion County High School, he went on to study at the University of Tennessee and Hobart Welding Institute where he earned his certification as a welder. He managed cattle farms and worked in construction and metal fabrication. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Jasper. Matt loved golf, fishing and hunting and was a member and avid supporter of Ducks Unlimited.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Faye P. Layne and grandparents, Frances P. Layne and "Shade" and Dolly Pressnell.
He is survived by his father, John P. Layne, Jr. and wife, Helen S. Layne of Signal Mountain, TN; sister, Bonnie L. McKinney and husband, Chris of Rossville, GA; grandfather, John Parker Layne, Sr. of South Pittsburg; step-brother, Paul M. Mayo and wife, Andrea of Ooltewah, TN; step-sister, Kristi Riley of Flintstone, GA; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
Private funeral services were held on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at Cumberland View Cemetery in Kimball.
