Meredith James Layne Thomas, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Leroy(Roy) Layne: Parents, Katherine Flannery James and James Elred James of Jasper;  sister-in-law, Sharon Layne Hughes of Pawley's Island, South Carolina, and mother-in-law and father -in-law Dwight and Mary Alice Layne.

She is survived by her children Michael (Angie) Layne and Bryan Layne, one grandchild, Brandon Layne; Brother-in-law, Jerry Huges, of Pawley's Island, S.C. and also her dear friend  Lynda Smith.

She retired from the State of Tennessee Welcome Center working in the tourism department.

She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and also attended the Methodist and Baptist Churches of Jasper.

She was a graduate of Marion County High School and attended Middle Tennessee State University.

She was an avid reader, and loved to cross -stitch and play games on facebook.  She also loved to travel and keep up with old friends.

She worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield and South Pittsburg Hospital many years ago..

She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone she met.

The family will have a graveside service at a later date.
