Dr. Charles Michael Howe, 76, of South Pittsburg, TN died Saturday, April 14, 2018 in a Chattanooga hospital.

Mike was President of his graduating class at Marion Military Academy and went on to study at Birmingham Southern University and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He did his medical internship at Caraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama, served his residency in OBGYN at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, graduating with his medical degree on June 12, 1966. He operated a successful OBGYN practice in Starkville, Mississippi for many years, was a member of the AMA, and had received a Distinguished Physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology award. In 1990, Mike and his wife, Patty moved their family to South Pittsburg, Tennessee, where he was an active volunteer in the community's National Cornbread Festival. He was also a member of Holly Avenue United Methodist Church. Mike loved his church and regularly taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. & Mrs. C.D. Howe, brother, Dr. Robert Howe, in May 2017, and his beloved daughter, Dana Lynn Howe, in May 2015.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patty Alexander Howe, of South Pittsburg, Tennessee; nieces and nephews, Carol Ingram of Birmingham, Alabama, Elizabeth Clark, of Huntsville, Alabama, Tommy Howe, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Margaret Upton, of Auburn, Alabama, Charlie Howe, of Birmingham, Alabama, David Gibbs, of Jackson, Mississippi, and Joy Phillips, of Jackson, Tennessee; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kay & Joe Gibbs, of Brownsville, Tennessee; and a host of friends.

The family will gather with friends at the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, for visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service, officiated by Rev. Logan Jackson, at 3:00 p.m. Central time.
