Obituary

Nellie (Nell) Ann Sherrill Brown, 92, passed away Christmas Day, 2020.

She was at the home where she had lived since 1955; the home where she raised her children behind the long rock fence on Betsy Pack Drive in Jasper, Tn.; the home where she was, as always, surrounded by her loving family. As one friend remarked, "Heaven is richer today".

Nell was born on a 300 acre farm in Grandview, Tn. on June 23, 1928.  She was the daughter of the late William Major and Amy Irene Garrison Sherrill. She lived in Spring City, Tn. until she married her beloved husband, Charles Wallace Brown, in 1946.

With her family, Nell attended McKendree United Methodist Church. Another friend says she is the most positive person she knows. Nell was kind to everyone. She always put others first.

She and Wallace were involved in many community activities in their lifetime.  They owned various businesses before opening the White Store in 1968 and operating until their retirement in 1996. Nell learned to be a politician's wife early in her marriage as she joined Wallace in serving the community in various public service capacities. The first year that Wallace was elected as Circuit Court Clerk, Nell was just old enough to vote for the first time. Nell later continued her public service as a State Senator's wife, and the wife of a city alderman the first year that Jasper was incorporated.

In addition to her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Brown of 64 years who passed away in 2010, infant brother, Wilburn Lewis Sherrill, sisters: Bertie Agnes (Clifford) Reed, Jewell Marie (Bill) Dunn, Masel Lee (Carel) Reed, and sister-in-law Maxine Sherrill.

She is survived by brothers Charles (Sylvia) Sherrill of Mt. Juliet, Tn., and Mitchell Sherrill of Hixson, Tn. along with numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Her family remembers her for her unconditional love and devotion, her famous chocolate pies, her beautiful hand-made quilts, and her incredible Sunday dinners.  Left with warm memories are her son, Wallace (Wally) Brown and wife Sharon of Jasper, her daughter June Brown Centimole and husband Steve of Monteagle, Tn., her adored granddaughters Elizabeth (Chip) Wilson of Jasper, and Susan (Anthony) Murakami of Jasper. Her great grandsons, Chase and Chance Wilson, held her heart strings.

A special appreciation is extended to Nell's loving caregivers Lynda Smith, Becky Carpenter, Annette Carpenter, Nona Kilgore, Hilda Aker, and Pat Durham who first became friends and then family.

Due to the Coronavirus, a private graveside service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 with family in attendance. We request that everyone who attends wear a mask and practice social distancing. The Rev. Joey Manis will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to McKendree United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 176, Jasper, Tn or to

St. Jude Research Hospital @ stjude.org.

Arrangements are by Rogers Funeral Home of Jasper, TN; 21 East Fifth Street, Jasper, TN (423) 942-2682.
