IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ola Mae
Reeves
March 14, 1930 – April 13, 2016
Ola Mae Reeves (age 86) has gone to be with her heavenly family. She was the only child born to Lena Irene Whitener. Ola Mae was born and lived her entire life on her grandfather and grandmother's (Jim and Nancy Long) farm in the Mineral Springs Community.
She was proud of the farm that has been in her family for over 100 years and a smile would come to her lips when talking about her years on the farm and watching and caring for the animals.
She had so many things in her life that brought her happiness. Her children and grandchildren were her pride, but also every child that she had contact with in the classroom or the community.
She had great pride and joy thinking and talking about her 40 years as a full time teacher. In her last few days on this earth, she talked about the honor that had been bestowed on her by the people of her district to look after their children as school board member for the ten years preceding her death.
When the tornado of 1963 destroyed her home and possessions, she had been a stay at home mom and substitute teacher. After a few days of cleaning up the destruction, she went to Chattanooga looking for a job, but was not able to find one.
She approached the Marion County School System and was granted a full-time job at Whitwell Elementary under Mrs. Margaret Dykes, on the condition that she pursue a college degree. In 1972 she obtained a BS degree in Elementary Education by attending college at night and weekends.
This was also the year her son (Mack) graduated high school. She taught in Whitwell, South Pittsburg, and Jasper touching the lives of children across the county. Every student was a shining star that she wanted to see achieve their goals.
She also loved to talk politics, whether it was local or National. She made the statement in her last few weeks on this earth that "Our plans are not always what God has planned, but God's plan is the best plan." She was married to the late R. B. Reeves for 65 and a half years.
She is survived by her two children Mack Reeves (Debra Ann) and Ramona Reeves McEntyre (Tommy), and three grandchildren that were the love of her life: Sarah McEntyre Miller (Ryan), Thomas McEntyre, and Lydia Reeves.
