Obituary

Pastor John W. Morris, 62, of South Pittsburg, TN died Thursday, February 17, 2011 at his home.

The son of the late John Edward and Mary Williams Morris, he was a graduate of South Pittsburg High School and had earned an Associate Degree from McKenzie College. He honorably served the United States Army during the the Vietnam War, and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his courageous service.

Pastor Morris served as senior pastor and teacher of Brakebill Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church for 30 years, and worked for TVA and Variform. He enjoyed his family, friends, and church members.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Lasater and James Morris and five aunts, Maggie Williams, Omie Hill, Joy Gault, Joann Lovelady and Beatrice (Rev. OLC) Pounds.

He is survived by his son, Chris Morris and granddaughter, Kennedy Elise Morris both of Chattanooga; brother, Joseph Morris of Chicago, IL; uncle, Jacee Gault of Cleveland, Ohio; cousins, Louise Thomas, Andrea (Javon) Thomas, Anna (Willet) McCarver, Shawn McCarver, Keith (Viva) McCarver, Carl Houston (Harriet) Lovelady and Robbie Gault.

Funeral services will be conducted from Grace Baptist Church in South Pittsburg at 10am Central time on Friday, February 25, 2011 with Reverend Charles E. Moore officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30pm Central time at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 7-8pm Central time on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
