Obituary

Peggy Beene Fraser, 71, of Brentwood, Tennessee died Monday morning, February 25, 2008 at Lakeshore Wedgewood in Nashville. She was born to Lemuel Philip Beene and Patsy Barker Beene in September, 1936. Giving up her goal of being a pediatrician, Peggy switched to education and used the pre-med courses to become a teacher of chemistry and biology. Teaching long enough to get her husband through seminary in New Haven, she then settled down to child rearing, Sunday school teaching, PTA, and choir. When the youngest hit school age, she went to work for ACTS, the Association for Christian Training and Service. Still interested in the medical field, she discovered Speech-Language Pathology, got a masters degree, and worked in Nashville and Knoxville (becoming the head clinician in Speech and Hearing for the Knoxville City Schools). Following her husband to Harriman, she exercised her skills in a Roane County pre-school handicapped program. In 1995, probable Alzheimer's forced her retirement, and in 1997 the Frasers returned to South Pittsburg for a four-year stay. As her condition grew more severe, they moved to Brentwood, and the last year and a half has been spent in institutional care. She is survived by her mother, now of South Pittsburg, Tennessee and Louisville, Colorado; her husband, The Rev. W. Carson Fraser, Sr.; her aunts Billie Mae Beattie of Jasper and Wyndolyn Schubert of Harriman; her brother, Dr. James (Elaine) Beene of Oak Ridge; her sister, Dr. Jane (Wayne) Daniels of Breckenridge, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Harry) Turner of Kingsport and Dianne (Gordon) Goodgame of Lake Junaluska, North Carolina; eleven nieces and nephews.Peggy is also survived by her children: William C.
