Obituary

Robert Melvin "Slick" Hudson of South Pittsburg died Saturday evening following a brief illness.Born April 27, 1941 to the late Robert Blount and Louella Elledge Hudson, he was a veteran of the US Air Force, a member of Marion Lodge #515 F&AM, a member of the Marion County Rescue Squad, and had graduated from Northeast State Junior College. Mr. Hudson was a two-term member of the Marion County Commission and had been employed by Penn-Dixie Cement Corporation, had worked as an agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, and most recently had owned and operated Slick's Gun Shop in South Pittsburg for 24 years.He is survived by his wife, Terri Powell Hudson, one daughter, Sherrie Hudson Payne, one son, Robert Kirk (Candy) Hudson, two grandchildren, Zack Hudson and Paislee Payne, all of South Pittsburg, one sister, Velma Jean Harris and one brother, Buddy Hudson, both of Jasper. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Hutchins and a brother, Grady Hudson.Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 3, at 2:00pm CDT from the Grace Baptist Church in South Pittsburg. Interment will be in Orme Top Cemetery.The family will receive friends at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg on Monday, July 2, between the hours of 3:00pm and 9:00pm CDT.
