Obituary

Mrs. Rosalyn S. Wood, 91, of Nashville, TN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 9, 2007.She was born September 21, 1916, in Saundersville, GA, to the late William Burton Sherman and Emimae Pritchard Sherman. After her father's death in 1925, her mother remarried Lucius Rosser Langley, who, until his death, was a beloved parent. In 1941, Rosalyn married the late James W. "Jasper" Wood.Rosalyn graduated as Salutatorian from Brenau College, where she studied piano and organ, and was trained to teach Spanish and French. In the 1960s, she served on the Metro Nashville School Mother's patrol and taught this group an emergency preparedness course during the height of the Cold War. As a concert pianist, she played many recitals locally and also performed duet piano concerts witha playing partner. Rosalyn was also a virtuoso on the organ, playing recitals and from the founding of the church, served for 30 years as the organist for St. Paul Southern Methodist Church on Hillsboro Road.She was preceded in death by twin daughters (age 2 weeks), Marilyn Shirley and Rosalyn Theresa Wood, and is survived by four sons, J. Michael (Bonnie) Wood, Thomas S. (Susan) Wood IV, J. Price (Jane) Wood, W. Houston (Claudia) Wood; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, L.R. "Bill" Langley of Washington, DC (Barbara) Langley of Yorktown, Indiana; and sister, Jean L. Fuller of Montgomery, AL.Graveside funeral services will be conducted at Pine Grove Cemetery in Jasper on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 10 AM CDT. Interment will immediately follow.There will be no visitation.Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
