Ruth Bunch Hookey, born November 24, 1930, in Lakeville, Indiana, died Thursday, March 28, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family.

Ruth and her sister, Doris, attended Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee. Following graduation in 1952, they moved to South Pittsburg, Tennessee to teach Bible Studies in the area schools, beginning teaching in 31 small schools per week, she continued to teach for 7 years.

On August 18, 1959, Ruth married Ted Hookey who preceded her in death, in 1991. Ruth worked for 30 years for the Tennessee Department of Human Services, starting the Food Stamp program. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, holding local and district offices.

In addition to her husband, Ted, she was preceded in death by her parents, Warren Otto & Gladie Marguerite Walter Bunch, sisters, Doris Sargent and Della Stroup, and brother, John Bunch.

She is survived by her nephew, Joe Moore and his wife, Betty, and many other nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Quneta Reed and the Amedisys Hospice nurses and staff for the exceptional care they provided to Ruth.

Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Central time on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 with Rev. Joe Moore and Rev. David Anderson, officiating. Interment will follow at Cumberland View Cemetery in Kimball, Tennessee.

The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Monday, April 1st, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Central time.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ruth's memory to Wesley United Methodist Church, 300 Magnolia Avenue, South Pittsburg, Tennessee 37380.
