Samuel L. Brannon, Jr., 83, of Nashville, TN, and a former resident of South Pittsburg, TN, died Sunday, October 11, 2009.
He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam L. Brannon, Sr. of South Pittsburg, TN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ethel Lee Brannon; 2 brothers and a sister. He is survived by his son, Steve (Brigitta) Brannon of Nashville; daughter Lynn (Randy) Crossland of Greenbrier, TN; and sister, Mary B. Davis of Donelson, TN.
He was educated in South Pittsburg, TN and University of the South in Sewanee, TN where his name is on a plaque at Sewanee in honor of his military service. He served in Germany for four years during WWII. He was an active deacon in Dalewood Baptist Church for over 40 years, where he was known and loved for his many contributions to the church. He retired after 40 years of service in the U.S. Postal Service.
The visitation will be at Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home in Nashville on Tuesday from 3pm-8pm. Funeral Services will be conducted from Dalewood Baptist Church in Nashville on Wednesday at 10am. The interment will be in Cumberland View Cemetery, Kimball, TN at 2pm on Wednesday.
