Sara Marie Clepper
08/30/1936 - 06/11/2026
Gahanna, Ohio
Sara Marie Clepper passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in her home in Gahanna, Ohio, on June 11th, 2026, at age 89, following an extended illness.
Born in 1936, Marie (as she was known to many friends and family) lived the majority of her life in South Pittsburg, Tennessee.
As a child, Marie spent summers on her aunt and uncle’s farm, where she delighted in riding on her favorite white billy goat and terrorizing her older brother, Gene.
In 1959, Marie married David C. Clepper, Jr., who lived only two houses away. They moved down the street into a home they built themselves, where they raised their two sons, Randy and Tim.
A graduate of South Pittsburg High School, Marie’s professional career included secretarial and bookkeeping roles in law firms, medical offices, the Tennessee Valley Authority, and the South Pittsburg Housing Authority. She studied accounting at McKenzie Business College.
Upon retiring in 2000, Marie moved to Gahanna, Ohio (and began going by her first name, Sara).
Sara excelled in her roles as “Mima” and “Grandma,” knitter and crocheter of whimsical creatures, living room bandleader, occasional poet, crossword and jigsaw puzzle aficionado, and all-around captain of cheer. Sara loved creating a cozy and welcoming home where she cooked up inventive meals and cared for a garden of herbs and cacti.
She is preceded in death by her husband David, her older brother Gene, and her parents Dentzel and Mary Lou Landstreet. She will be dearly missed by her sister-in-law Margaret Landstreet, sons Randy and Tim, daughters-in-law Dora and Paula, grandchildren Erin, Samuel, Gina, and Jessica Clepper, and the rest of her family, friends, and neighbors.
A private graveside service will be held in South Pittsburg, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Central Ohio. We are sure she would be honored if you remembered her by befriending your local squirrels, chipmunks, and birds.
Arrangements are entrusted to Rogers Funeral Home, South Pittsburg Chapel, 400 Laurel Ave, South Pittsburg, TN 37380 (423)837-7176.
