Obituary

Mrs. Stella Mae Epps Moore, 92, of South Pittsburg, TN died Saturday, October 18, 2008 in a Nashville healthcare facility.
Born to the late Emmett Isaac and Annie Lynn Lanier Epps, she was raised in Covington, Tipton County, Tennessee where she played basketball for Frazier High School. She married Dr. Hiram Beene Moore and moved to South Pittsburg in 1944. She graduated from Tennessee State University in 1945. The couple supported the University as long as they were able, especially the football program.
Stella was a member of Randolph United Methodist Church, having served as financial secretary for 30 years, a longtime choir member and a member and President of the United Methodist Women. She was a longtime Girl Scout leader and was active with both the Meals on Wheels program and the Community Service League. She was also a retired school teacher, having taught for many years in both Tipton and Marion counties. She was also active in the Women's Medical Auxiliaries of the Mountain City Medical Society, Volunteer State Medical Association and the National Medical Association. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Pi Omega Chapter in Chattanooga, The Links, Inc. and the Quettes.
When the City of South Pittsburg received a Town Clock, it was decided that the clock be dedicated to Dr. and Mrs. Moore in appreciation for their many and untiring efforts in the community.
Mrs. Moore was among the women honored at Mt. Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church as an Outstanding Woman of the Community and on her 90th Birthday, Randolph United Methodist Church honored her for her dedication to her church.
Her devoted husband preceded her in death in 2005 after sharing over 60 years with her. She was also preceded in death by brother, Millard T. Epps and sister, Vivian Murphy.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Moore and grandson, Jalin M. Moore both of Nashville, TN; sister, LaVerne Edwards; brothers, Joe (Rosa) Epps and Walter Bennett (Joyce) Epps; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from Randolph United Methodist Church in South Pittsburg on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 1:00 PM CDT with Reverend Sharon Bowers, Reverend Andrew Frierson and Louis Powell officiating. Interment will be in Gaines Chapel Cemetery in Kimball.
The family will gather with friends for visitation on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 from 6-8 PM CDT at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg, TN.
