Obituary

Susan Owen Johnson, 64, of South Pittsburg, TN, passed away on January 19, 2023 after being hospitalized due to complications with ALS.

Susan was born on November 14, 1958 to Clayton and Betsy Owen in Bridgeport, AL. After Susan graduated from South Pittsburg High School in 1976, she went on to study nursing at UTC and the Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing and Anesthesiology at Erlanger School of Anesthesia.

After graduating with a degree in nursing and anesthesia, she started her first job at Erlanger Baroness Hospital as a nurse anesthetist, kickstarting a 43-year career.

In 1992, Susan met Bill Johnson through mutual friends and married in October 1992. They shared a beautiful life together. Susan and Bill have one child, Will Johnson. Susan and her previous spouse Larry Higdon also had one child, Justin Higdon. While both went on to remarry, Susan and Larry were friends and remained in touch.

In her free time, Susan enjoyed quilting, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Susan was predeceased by her grandparents Avery and Kate McCuiston. She is survived by her husband; Bill Johnson, her parents; Clayton and Betsy Owen, her sister; Angie Dyke, her sons; Justin Higdon and Will Johnson, her brothers-in law and sisters-in-law; Jim Dyke, Bob Johnson, Michael Haggard, Mary Johnson, and Linda Johnson, her daughters-in-law; Suzanne Higdon and Emily Johnson, her nieces and nephew; Ashley Dyke, Megan Haggard Hunter, Natalie Alonzo, Abbie Redman and Jeremy Dyke, her grandson; Stephen Higdon, and her grandniece, Clementine Dyke.

Services will be held at the Kimball Tabernacle of Praise Church, 1491 Battle Creek Rd, South Pittsburg, TN, on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. (CST) with Pastor Darrell Nunley officiating.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. (CST) at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg and on Wednesday, January 25 th at the Kimball Tabernacle of Praise Church in Battle Creek from 11:30 a.m. (CST) prior to the funeral service.

Interment will be at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The ALS Association Tennessee Chapter, an organization Susan felt strongly about.
