Thomas Nelson, 79, of South Pittsburg, Tennessee died Sunday, April 28, 2019.
Tommy was a member of Lou's Chapel United Methodist Church, and spent his career working as a licensed electrician, retiring from Galaxy Carpet Mills. He was known for being able to fix anything that was broken and he was so musically talented that he could play any instrument that was put into his hands. He especially loved Bluegrass music and enjoyed playing with the Battle Creek Grass group.
Tommy enjoyed fishing, but his favorite pastime was playing with his kids and grandkids. His home was always open to family who needed him and more than once his family shared their home with relatives for years at a time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Dennis & Pearl Nichols Nelson; brothers, Sam, Alvin, J.L., George, Charles, and Bill Nelson; and sister, Anna Laura Wilson.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Linda Howard Nelson of South Pittsburg; daughters, Anna Marlene (Bill) Martin of Jasper, Tennessee, Ruthie (Mike) Cardin of South Pittsburg; son, Thomas Bryant (Tracy) Nelson of Whitwell, Tennessee; grandchildren, Kellee Griffith, Drew (Amy) Carver, Lynn Carver, Kyle (Miranda) Carver, Blake (Samantha) Nelson, and Travis Nelson; great-grandchildren, Braxton, Baylee, Remington, Sawyer, Myla, and Blaze; (grandchildren, Tracy Cardin and Jared (Jennifer) Cardin; great-grandchildren, Braden, Drake, and Macey); brother, Luther Nelson, sister, Jenny Goodner; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. Central time with Rev. Joe Moore, officiating. Interment will be in Gilliam Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 30th from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, May 1st from 2:00 p.m. Central until service time.
