Tim Hampton, 67, of Smithville, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at St. Thomas Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
The son of the late Dallas Wade Hampton and Irene Wilson Hampton Moore, he was a military veteran of the United States Air Force and the United States Navy, having served during the Vietnam War. His Navy service included submarine duty.
Tim worked for several years in law enforcement in DeKalb County and the City of Smithville, Tennessee. While in law enforcement, he served as a patrolman, Sergeant, Investigator, and as a Drivers Safety and Field Training officer. Tim always made a point to look out for the youth in the areas where he served – making a point to give everyone a fair shake.
He enjoyed carpentry and many outdoor activities, including fishing, but his favorite pastime was playing with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Joe Moore, daughter, Stacy Ann Hampton, and son, Scotty Hampton.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cheryl Holland Hampton, of Smithville; daughters, Jennifer Hampton (Craig) Arnold, of Winchester, Tennessee, and Tina Hampton, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; sisters, Sharon Roush and Sandy Wilson; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Central time on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 with Rev. Wayne Bowman, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Central time on Wednesday.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Central time at the funeral home.
