Mrs. Velma Grimes Bastin, 92, of Jasper, TN died Sunday, July 25, 2010 in a Monteagle nursing home.
The daughter of the late Fred Henry and Della Ann Turner Grimes, she was raised in Richard City, TN. She married Major Harry D. Bastin on September 26, 1938 and they travelled widely during his military service. Upon Major Bastin's retirement in 1957, they returned to Marion County and settled in Jasper. She worked for 11 years as a teacher's aide at Jasper Elementary School and was a member of First Baptist Church in Jasper and their Fidelis Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Major Harry D. Bastin and brother, Paul Grimes.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra (Dr. Perry) Holmes of Memphis, TN; son, Larry Don (Valerie Lyons) Bastin of Bremerton, WA; grandchildren, Amelia, Jessica and Meredith Bastin; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper on Saturday, July 31, 2010 from noon to 1:00 PM Central Time.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 1:00 PM Central Time, officiated by Rev. David Clay. Interment will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper.
