Vernon Kelly Smith, Jr., 71, from the Sweetens Cove Community of South Pittsburg, Tennessee went peacefully to his heavenly home on Thursday, April 10th, 2025.

Vernon was born March 17, 1954, to the late Vernon Kelly Smith Sr. and Shirley Belle Smith.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Jean Brown; stepfather, Luther Brown; maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Josire Smith, and paternal grandparents, Tom & Janey Smith.

Survivors include his loving spouse of 37 years, Margaret Smith, three sons, Kelly (Kathy) Smith; Mike (Wendy) Smith, and Jeff Bowman; daughter, Amanda (Garren) Appleton, all of South Pittsburg.  Brothers, Howard Brown, James Brown and Don Brown of Fort Oglethorpe; 10 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April15th, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. (CDT) in the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home with Pastor Tracy Fergusson officiating.

Mr. Smith will be laid to rest at the Bean-Roulston Cemetery in Sweetens Cove.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 and on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (CDT) prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers will be Mike Smith, Kelly Smith, Jeff Bowman, Josh Shipley, Kelly Rector, and Hunter Austin.

Honorary Pallbearers are Howard Brown and Jason Hood.
