Mrs. Virginia Barger Alder, 94, of Jasper, TN, died Thursday, February 16, 2017, in a Dunlap nursing home.

She was a longtime active member of the Jasper Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a Teacher in the Marion County School System for 43 years. She had served as former President of the Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society and the Marion County Education Association and was a member of the TEA, NEA and Marion County Retired Teachers. She was also a former member of the Judge David Campbell Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edd Alder and sisters, Frances Phillips and Mary Kelly Barger.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Jan) Johnson of Dunlap, TN; granddaughter, Kelly Broyles of Marietta, GA; grandsons, Jeff (Becky) Johnson of Dunlap, TN and Brandon (Daphne) Johnson of Rome, GA; great-grandchildren, Parks, Alex, Baylor and Brooks; sister, Betty (Tommy) Brown of Chattanooga, TN; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 1:30pm Central time on Sunday, February 19, 2017 with Jan Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Jasper, TN.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday from 12:00 Noon until service time at the funeral home.
