Wendell Blevins
NEW HOPE - Wendell Frank Blevins, 70, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019.
A longtime resident of the New Hope area, he was the son of the late Luther Benjamin and Bertha Lillian Hogan Blevins. Wendell was a graduate of South Pittsburg High School. He was the former owner and operator of Blevins Construction and worked for the City of South Pittsburg prior to his retirement due to illness.
Wendell's greatest love in his life was his family and visiting with all his friends. He was an avid "coon" hunter, helping form the Tri-County Coon Hunter's Association, from which he received a Lifetime Membership Award, and participating in treeing contests. He enjoyed finding yard sale treasures to give to family and friends, and especially enjoyed his large collection of Avon bottles. He also collected clocks and was known for making them from Lodge Cast Iron Skillets, sharing then with family and friends.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by siblings, Sherman Blevins, Houston Blevins, Wilma Mashburn, Judy Huckabee, and Louise (Ross) Payne; brothers-in-law, Ken Scissom and Harold Huckabee.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Priscilla Avans Blevins; daughters, Wendy Blevins, Cristy (Lennie) Cookston; grandchildren, Luke and Emma Claire Dobson, Ethan and Caylen Cookston; siblings, Stanley (Tonya) Blevins, Johnny Blevins, Fred (Donna) Blevins, Doug Blevins, Greg (Denita) Blevins, Carolyn Scissom, Barbara (Doug) Powers, Diane (Bo) Massengale; brother-in-law, John Mashburn; sisters-in-law, Billie and Edna Blevins; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm, central time, Monday, April 29, 2019, at the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home with Reverend David Marona officiating.
Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Hope.
The family will receive friends for visitation Sunday, April 28, from 1:00-8:00 pm and Monday, April 29, from noon until 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
