Mr. William Russell "Bill" Baker, Sr., died Tuesday, February 11, 2014. The son of the late Russell Clayton and Minerva Haggard Baker, he was a Navy veteran of World War II. After leaving the service he was a truck driver for Central Motors and Yellow Freight Lines for 22 years, retiring in 1977. He worked for 19 years at Marion County High School and was the "ultimate" Warrior. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Howard Baker; daughter, Brenda McClain; son, Wayne Baker; sisters, Gussie B. Duke and Mary B. Witt; brother, John Allen Baker.
He is survived by his children, Ann (Butch) Vores, of Mead, OK; Bill (Paula) Baker of Knoxville, TN; seven grandchildren, Barry W. (Patti) Henderson, Valorie King, and Stacey (Ralph) Kennedy all of Chattanooga, Sherry H. (Jim) Hargis, and Tammy H. (Barry) Brooks both of South Pittsburg, Kelley H. (Danny) Rutledge of Jasper and Jennifer (Joe ) Pace of Knoxville, TN; daughter-in-law Judy Baker of Jasper; twelve great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia B. Haynes, of Chattanooga and Bonnie B. Woolard of Lebanon, TN; brother-in-law Ed Howard of Columbus, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would especially like to thank Dale (Sandy) Howard for their special love and care and a special thanks to Jerry (Betty) Nelson. Also the family would like to thank Valley View Assisted Living and Sheltering Arms for their special care.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 14, from 4-8 central time and one hour before the service at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Saturday, February 15 at 1 pm with Rev. David Grisham officiating. Interment will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Marion County High School past and present principals, teachers, coaches, and students.
For those wishing to make a memorial contribution, the family suggests that those be made to Marion County High School (attention Larry Ziegler).
