Rev. William H. "Bill" Lassiter, 77, of Guild, TN, died Saturday in a Chattanooga hospital.
A minister in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church for over 30 years when he retired in 1999, he had served in the Chattanooga area for 25 years, and was a member of Holly Avenue United Methodist Church in South Pittsburg. Born in Sullivan County, TN, to the late Ernest P. and Hilda Pearl Cantrell Lassiter, he was a graduate of DeKalb County High School and Martin Jr. College, and received degrees from Tennessee Wesleyan and Emory.
Rev. Lassiter is survived by his wife, Sally M. Lassiter of Guild, a daughter, Kathryn Murphy of Culloden, Georgia, son, Tom Lassiter of El Paso, Texas, step-sons, Logan Carmichael of Chattanooga and Tommy Harney and Patsy Harney of Dayton, and granddaughters Jennifer H. (Zach) Ogden and Brittany Harney, grandson Jon Wilson, and 4 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 4:00 until 8:00pm Central at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg.
Funeral services will be held at Holly Avenue United Methodist Church on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at 11:00am Central time, with Rev. Michael Johnson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Holly Avenue United Methodist Church Building Fund or Youth Ministries.
