July 10, 1912 – June 5, 2017
Billie Hamilton, 104, formerly a resident of South Pittsburg, died of natural causes on June 5, 2017.
She was a long-time resident of Alexian Village on Signal Mountain. Billie was preceded in death by her spouse of 44 years, Isaac Newton "Ike" Hamilton, her parents, Annie Irene McLellan and William Hammond Hale, and step-father, William H. Paxton.
An only child, Willie Hammond "Billie" Hale was born July 11, 1912, in Birmingham, AL. She attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, graduating in 1935 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She taught briefly in the Marion County Schools.
While raising her family in South Pittsburg, she was a member of Christ Church Episcopal, a Cub and Girl Scout Leader, and active in the Garden Club. She was an expert seamstress, whose favorite past times included reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing bridge, and knitting.
Survivors include her children: Barry Hamilton & wife Nancy of Jamestown, NC; Hale Hamilton & wife Bonnie of Signal Mountain; Ann "Kitty" Nolen & husband Les of Memphis; and Jane Turner & husband David of Houston. Additionally, she leaves eleven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
The family plans to gather for a celebration of her life on August 26, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Christ Church Episcopal in South Pittsburg, TN.
